Project Notes
Bluntsticks’ second project goal is to bring water to a 30 acre parcel of land located just outside Bondo, Kenya. The farm provides for the laborers, the sisters, and the orphanage. Surplus, which is rare, is sold to the community to fulfill monetary needs, such as; tools and labor.
Surplus is generally sparse due to this regions dry season. During the dry season, crops must be hand watered to ensure their survival. A very large task, considering the farm is short-staffed. In addition to this hardship most of the lucrative vegetables remain only to be planted during the wet season.
Bluntsticks began their relationship 4 years ago with Sister Galdys Owour. A woman with some spunk, Sister Gladys or Mum as we call her, is a hard working woman. Over the past years she has achieved and overcome many dire times. She is a real inspiration and cares so much about this world. Mum has a love for farming and a true love for people. She takes care of those in need and comforts those, who otherwise would be lost in such a large world. It is because of this love that Bluntstsicks has chosen to support Mum and her Rieti Farm.
The Reiti Farm installed a pump and pumphouse in 2010, opening the doors to productive and efficient farming (especially in the dry season). Bluntsticks was made aware of this significant achievement and considered options to promote more growth on the farm. Keeping that in mind, Bluntsticks wrote to Mum and asked her for her opinion on the matter. She proposed that we fund and install an irrigation system. Keeping that in mind the Bluntsticks team sat down at the drawing board, throwing out ideas to make this dream a reality.
In the months to follow the ideas became reality. A fundraiser was held in October to aid Bluntsticks in their monetary challenge of sponsoring the $6000 price tag associated with this project. The team rose to the occasion. The sale of apparel and the support of those willing enabled us to give back to those who need it most!
Mum, was made aware of the situation by the Bluntstsicks staff. She was overjoyed to know that her farm would be producing vegetables throughout the whole year. Bluntsticks is breathing positive life into those who need it most, through our actions as a company. We are happy to announce the Reiti Farm Project.
